Just test drove both (2023). The difference is visibility is stunning. The tiny front windows of the Mazda and smaller windshield is huge disappointment. I’m torn.
I don't really see them as competitors, they are so different. If you want hybrid, Kona is the only option. If you have a family the Kona has a lot more interior space. If you don't intend to keep your car more than a couple of years, the Mazda will have a much better resale value. It has the classier interior and is quieter. Hyundai has not had a great track record on engine reliability. But its warranty is longer. As an older guy I put my money down on a top spec CX-30. It has all the space I need. For me, the only desirable thing it lacks in comparison to Kona is ventilated seats. Appearance is subjective but I much prefer the looks and color choices of the Mazda, cladding and all.

The Kona has a real transmission as well?
Yes, it does
I love Konas' exterior but prefer the Mazda interior. The Mazda looks a bit dated!
Without a doubt the Kona. The Mazda is way too dated.
